 A piece in one movement in alternating texture, partially dramatic with a handful of modalisms. In the last section there are hidden variations based on Salve Regina by Jacob Obrecht (XV century Netherland’s composer), which underlines a tendency to archaisation.

 Unusual idea! – A dedication to 90th birthday of (passing away a few years ago) professor Witold Rudziński, composer, erudite and expert in music and its popularization. A piece is based on transformed and hidden quotations from Wagner and Puccini and Debussy to Stravinsky, Szymanowski, Webern, Bartok, Ravel, Shostakovich and Messiaen.

 The main idea of this piece is a start from individual sounds transforming slowly to a fast perpetuum mobile.

 This piece commissioned by a famous flutist Elżbieta Gajewska and Wilanow Kwartet, was written on the second half of 2006 during my lasting several months stay in South Korea. First movement entitled Alla Turca (there’s no allusion to Mozart) is based on some transformed folk rhythms of Turkey, Crete and Bulgaria. Second movement Tranquillo and Grazioso is a dialog between “serious” quartet and a rhapsodic flute – at the end reconciled with each other. The third movement Alla Corsicana is based on Corsican mountaineers’ traditional music and on some songs from the Istria region.

 Parts I and III are life apotheosis in its deep aspect – a motion. Slow parts (II and IV) show meditation like a dream, distance. Especially last movement with its smooth swinging ostinato shows a mood of a farewell, calmed down, asleep.

 First movement of Sonata is variable and capricious, related to several stylistics and eras in music. Second – slow movement is based on jazz and blues harmonies. It slowly traverses to scherzo-like, extended double fugue. Last movement is a delicate intermezzo full of figurations and piano flourishes.
